Grew out of the Linux-ECC project (http://www.anime.net/~goemon/linux-ecc/) by Dan Hollis et al

Initial main-memory ECC Framework created by Thayne Harbaugh (as a rewrite).

More highly structured than its predecessor.

Overcomes several of the shortcomings of the original.

PCI parity error checking has been added more recently.

Named "bluesmoke" by Thayne.

Renamed EDAC prior to inclusion in the mainline kernel (2.6.16).
