Causes of main memory errors

Faulty memory chips.

Faulty motherboard/CPU.

Dirty or corroded edge connectors.

Components operating out-of-spec (timing, temperature, power supply etc).

Cosmic radiation(!) - these also affect systems which are in perfect work order.
